CC permits contributions to adapted material under the same or a later version of the original licence, including ported versions, so 2.1 JP → 4.0 is allowed.

Changes made

Adaptation by Souquet Consulting. The following changes are verified in the repository except the explicit TODO. Geometry retains its source fixed pose. Source attachment checks are not independent anatomical validation.

  • Selected skeletal meshes (bones and cartilage), skeletal muscles and source attachment areas from the full Z-Anatomy Blender dataset. Excluded support fascia and specified internal head and visceral muscle groups, and omitted non-mesh helpers, cameras, lights and animations from export.
  • Grouped existing parts of individual muscles into named selectable structures, retaining each part’s source identity; distinct muscles such as the rotator-cuff members remain separate. This is selection metadata, not mesh retopology.
  • Reorganised the models into head, torso & neck, shoulders & arms, hands, hips & legs, and feet, plus a shoulder study subset. Regional files include supporting bones and their attachment overlays across region boundaries.
  • Copied meshes out of their source parent hierarchy while preserving world transforms, cleared source custom properties and added structure IDs, source names and type metadata. Converted Blender meshes to glTF/GLB, baked modifiers, capped subdivision modifiers at one level and enabled smooth polygon shading.
  • Replaced source materials with portable bone, cartilage, muscle, tendon, origin and insertion materials. Added viewer colours, clay material, roughness changes, lighting, selection highlights, transparency and attachment x-ray display.
  • Removed unused texture-coordinate and tangent attributes, pruned unused data, deduplicated resources and compressed and quantized regional GLB geometry using Meshopt.
  • Added muscle–bone origin/insertion mappings checked against source names, bone parents and material roles: 571 source attachment areas included and 134 ambiguous or unmatched areas omitted. Added supporting-bone context using bounds, region and explicit humeral context for latissimus dorsi; this context does not itself assert an attachment.
  • Added two approximate latissimus dorsi insertion patches reconstructed from source muscle–humerus contact, fitted slightly above the humeral surface. These are new additions, not recovered source attachment meshes; the inconsistent scapular source objects remain excluded. Reconstruction labels remain in the viewer and exported images. Their boundaries have not been independently anatomically validated, and latissimus origin coverage remains partial. Location reference: Moatshe et al., proximal humerus attachment study.
  • TODO: confirm whether any polygon reduction, retopology or OBJ conversion occurred outside the checked-in pipeline. No such step was found in the repository; the verified conversion starts from Blender, and compression is not evidence of retopology.

Application source code

Our application source code is separate from the CC BY-SA model data and is not covered by it. The CC BY-SA 4.0 release applies to our adapted model data and anatomy manifest, not to the application source code.

Retained upstream credits

The unmodified upstream licence and contributor credits and source repository are retained. The complete upstream archive includes separately credited noncommercial inner-ear and kidney content. These are outside this viewer’s skeletal and muscular selection; the full archive must not be treated as uniformly licensed model data.
